IWOSC — Independent Writers of Southern California — provides writers with several opportunities to get together with other writers each month. We have casual satellite get-togethers in various areas; we have a seminar most months, and we have a general meeting that is typically a panel discussion about a writing-related topic.

Many of our members are published professionals or professional writers of other sorts, while others are working on breaking into the professional writing scene. Some write books, others write for magazines, others do public relations...

If you're a writer, at any level, in any genre, we invite you to come check us out.

First, a special thing because IWOSC cares...

Adopt a book

IWOSC has a longstanding tradition of supporting the Los Angeles Public Library.
In 1986, when an arson fire destroyed 400,000 volumes, and damaged countless more books, periodicals and other materials in Downtown's iconic 1926 Bertram Goodhue-designed Egyptian Revival-style Central Library, IWOSC members jumped in, rolled up their sleeves, and helped out.

As IWOSC celebrates its quarter century of supporting writers and the writing life in Southern California, we are again calling upon our members and friends to dig in and help the Library, this time by adopting much-needed books.

To adopt a book...
download this form, print it, and either bring it to us or mail it to us using the address on the form.
(To download, right-click and choose the download option.)

Thank you for supporting the LA Public Library through IWOSC!

Join IWOSC at the
West Hollywood Book Fair

Call for volunteers

IWOSC will be at the West Hollywood Book Fair on Sunday, September 28

We've met many of our recent most active members at these events, which are full of new experiences and opportunities.

We are now seeking volunteers to star in our booth and talk about IWOSC. If you are interested, — our Festival Chair.

The West Hollywood Book Fair is a great fun book fest, with several stages presenting seminars and book and poetry readings among other esoteric offerings. Again, IWOSC will have its own booth and a small group of IWOSC members will read on the Robertson Scene stage.

Your interview can be a great promotional tool:
It can be accessed on demand 24/7 on BigMediaUSA.com.
It may be downloaded and placed on your own website free of charge.
You may also send a link to your own mailing lists.

To set up an interview, email the following items to

1) One small digital head shot to be used for the web page advertising the shows.

2) A brief list of questions for the interviewers to ask you (interviewers may digress from the question list).

3) A 50-word bio.

When a taping is scheduled, bring the book being promoted.

Writers will be contacted to arrange tapings based on availability.

The 2008 annual IWOSC Summer Party at the Heritage Square Museum in Highland Park gave us a great opportunity to rub elbows with fellow writers in a unique historic setting. If you missed it, you'll have a similar opportunity at our annual Winter Party. All of our parties give you the chance to know a place of interest in the LA area.
