IWOSC Reads Its Own
Sunday, July 20, 2008
2 to 4 p.m.
Also 11 a.m. Storytime: Lisa Dunn-Dern reads her children’s book, “Dr. Duncan Dog on Duty,” about a family’s therapy dog that visits children in the hospital every week.
IWOSC Reads Its Own is back for another spellbinding afternoon of eclectic, eccentric, and exemplary works — from poems to true stories to hilarious monologues and beyond, read aloud by distinguished IWOSC scribes.
Check out some of the distinguished line-up:
- Robert S. Levinson delivers an excerpt from his gritty murder mystery, “In the Key of Death,” a Los Angeles Times-ranked bestseller.
- Award-winning playwright Libbe S. HaLevy spins a tale about a post-menopausal acrophobe facing her fear of heights while rock climbing in Malibu.
- Peter Balaskas, managing editor of Ex Machina Press (and winner of the 2007 Publisher of the Year by the DIY convention), reads from his novel, “The Grandmaster.“
- Pam Ward, honored for her poetry and whose work is featured in “Best American Erotica,” reads from her new novel, “Bad Girls Burn Slow”.
- Judy Seckler, art and architecture magazine writer, offers a humorous essay titled “Requiem for a Stick Shift,” her take on saying goodbye to a trusty Honda CRX-Si after 22 years on the road.
- Professional Business Coach Josef S. Klus serves up poetry based on his adventures living in and leaving Paris, and on other emotional and spiritual roller coasters.
- Natasha Bauman offers a selection from her historical novel, “The Disorder of Longing,” which was just published by Putnam this month.
- Novelist and screenwriter Marvin Wolf reads a riveting excerpt from his memoir, “The Best Outhouse in Vietnam, And Other War Stories I Never Told Mom.“
Don’t miss this great opportunity to support your fellow writers and hear some witty, wise, and wonderful wordplay, while exploring a terrific bookstore.
PLUS BOOK FAIR FUNDRAISER!
Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of every sale made with a special Bookfair voucher or Code #320077 to IWOSC.
Up to 20 percent of virtually everything you buy will go to IWOSC. A few items aren’t eligible, such as gift cards and magazine subscriptions, but almost everything else in the store is fair game: books, CDs, gifts, even the food and beverages from the café. Just present one of the Book Fair vouchers when you make your purchase, and IWOSC will benefit.
If you can’t make it to the store on the day of IWOSC Reads, you can still participate in this benefit for IWOSC. Go to the B&N website, make a list of what you’d like to purchase (make sure to note the ISBN numbers), then call the store at (323) 525-0270 during the Fair and place your order over the phone. Make sure to tell the person taking your order that you’re with the IWOSC Book Fair so that IWOSC can benefit. In turn, you’ll get your books delivered right to your home with free shipping!
[We have removed the Book Fair voucher as it is no longer in use.]
Also, please consider a purchase while you are at the bookstore, even if it’s just a cup of coffee.
